Civil Engineering, An Ever Green Career Prospect



Civil engineering is one of the oldest branches in engineering study. It is considered to be an ever green option to make a career. Though there were few up and downs in mid 1980’s, it regained its importance and has become most sought-after branches

From the beginning, man has been involved in various types of edifices. Shelter is considered as basic need for people. From cave dwellings, human beings had moved on to construct houses, palaces, canals, dams, highways, and stadia From the huts to Burj  khalifa , we have made a great progress. These civilian structures played a significant role in the development of human race and gave various dimensions to human life as various activities evolved: social, political, economic and recreational.

Some substantial structures from the past include the, the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Roman Coliseum, Stonehenge in Britain ,the Great Wall of China and the magnificent Taj Mahal. Also worth mentioning here are buildings from the ancient cities of Chichen Itza, Machu Picchu and Petra. These are just but a mere glimpse of the examples set by one of the oldest branches of engineering, that is, civil engineering.

Civil engineering has got the widest range and applications that are visible among all the branches of engineering. In fact, the entire infrastructural framework of a modern nation is the creation of civil engineers.  Mighty power plants, airports, dams, seaports, highways, inland waterways, industrial plants are all possible because of civil engineers. There are an unending array of urban structures like sky scrapers, commercial complexes, bridges, tunnels, roads and urban transport system, sports stadia and so on.

Whether be it cities or towns or remote villages of country, one cannot miss the creation of civil engineers. This nature makes it an evergreen prospect for career minded youngsters. There are endless job opportunities for civil engineers in both public as well as in private sector undertakings in our country.
